This second module of the LOC platform is dedicated to the Central Park, as a sample of a natural urbanized space where several gaps are evident in the way we approach the concept of care towards some of the deeper levels of biodiversity within such an area.
In the spirit of LOC’s mission, we brought together Natalia Ciobanu, Eliana Sevianu, and Mihai Savu – specialists in biology and ecology, Ioana Hogman and Gál Orsolya – local artists, and Marius Mornea, in his dual role as a sustainability expert and artist. Together, we explored the types of relationships that have developed over time between people and the park, and the ways in which these relationships can become, over time, more inclusive and attentive to the biodiversity space of an urban natural area.
As a result of this laboratory-meeting held in early July 2024, the artists integrated these concepts into their creative processes and translated them into a series of augmented reality installations that will be accessible in the real space of the Central Park. These interactive works are meant to bring participants closer to the hidden worlds of the existing ecosystem here and to spark deeper inquiries into our relationship with this place.
I see this initiative as a small first step toward greater closeness and awareness of the position of responsibility we hold within the urban ecosystem.
